Stingray's Calgary Conquest: A Radio Revolution!
In a bold move, Stingray is set to revolutionize the radio landscape in Calgary. Fresh off its acquisition of the streaming giant TuneIn, Stingray is now expanding its radio cluster in the vibrant city of Calgary. But here's where it gets interesting...
Stingray has acquired the beloved Hot AC station, C97.7, from Rawlco Radio. This move adds a third FM station to Stingray's growing Calgary portfolio, joining the popular CHR station, Amp Radio, and the classic hits station, XL 103.
Steve Jones, President of Stingray, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We're thrilled to deepen our roots in Calgary. C97.7 has an incredible connection with its listeners and the community, and we're dedicated to upholding the fantastic legacy Rawlco Radio began. This acquisition is a perfect fit for our existing Calgary stations, enhancing our high-quality radio offerings and reinforcing our commitment to delivering the best local radio experience across Canada."
The deal, however, is subject to CRTC approval, which is anticipated in the second quarter of Stingray's 2027 fiscal year. While the purchase price remains undisclosed, Rawlco retains its three stations in Regina and Saskatoon, SK.
This expansion raises intriguing questions: Will Stingray's influence in Calgary's radio market shape the industry's future? How will this acquisition impact the city's diverse music scene and local businesses? And this is the part most people miss... the potential for a truly unique and tailored radio experience for Calgarians.
