NFL: Seattle Seahawks claim NFC West title with victory over San Francisco 49ers
The Seattle Seahawks secured the NFC West title with a 13-3 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, earning a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The game's only touchdown was scored by Zach Charbonnet, with Jason Myers kicking two field goals. The Seahawks' defense shone brightly, contributing to their seventh consecutive win and a 14-3 record.
"Our defense picked us up, just like they've been doing all year," said Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. "They've been fantastic."
Darnold's passing totalled 198 yards, with Kenneth Walker III and Charbonnet combining for 171 rushing yards. Walker III expressed his team's hard work and determination, stating, "We've been working tirelessly, and it's paying off. But we can't get complacent."
The 49ers' six-game winning streak was snapped, resulting in a wildcard round away game. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 16-14 win over the Carolina Panthers, who needed a win to secure their playoff spot. Both teams now await the outcome of the game between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints to determine their playoff fate.
The top seeds in both the NFC and AFC conferences will receive a first-round bye and home-field advantage. The remaining six teams will participate in the Wildcard Weekend, with three division winners hosting three wildcard teams. The top seeds will then host the lowest remaining seed in the Divisional Round, followed by the Championship games, where the highest seed will host the game.
