Cena’s candid reflection centers on a three-word chant he heard during his mid-career years: “You can’t wrestle.” He explained that these words followed him as he routinely executed a familiar five-move routine that often secured victory. The crowd’s verdict, however, showed a different spectacle: other performers were pulling off impressive sequences, while Cena’s finish felt repetitive, prompting him to question the larger narrative he was building. He recognized that dynasties can be fragile if the audience doesn’t buy into the baton pass.

“Even though the crowd was shouting from the stands, I found motivation to improve and stay authentic,” Cena recalled. He asked them what he could learn, how to execute differently, and how to make others shine—an approach rooted in serving the story and lifting his peers as much as entertaining the audience. He notes that the audience will keep leaning in as long as they feel connected to the character and the storyline.
