But here's where it gets controversial: Can contemporary architecture truly honor the past without overshadowing it? Younch Hotel, designed by MUDA-Architects, attempts just that in Xi'an's Huangchengfang district. Located near the northeast corner of the city's ancient walls and a Ming Dynasty gate tower, this 16-room hotel sits at the crossroads of historical preservation and urban renewal. With a footprint of 3,000 square meters and a projected completion in 2025, the project aims to reinterpret Xi'an's thirteen-dynasty heritage within a sleek, modern framework. And this is the part most people miss: The hotel's design team, led by Yun LU, collaborated with manufacturers like BAILAMOE, KD, and Nanogress, alongside lighting designers DOPI Studio and construction experts Guangxi Lvfa Architectural Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd., to create a space that feels both timeless and cutting-edge.
