A serious incident unfolded at Bonnie Doon when a boat fire resulted in two teenagers suffering severe injuries.
On Monday, emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a boat ramp located off Hutchisons Road around 2:10 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered a boat engulfed in flames, prompting swift action.
The two 18-year-old individuals involved were airlifted to The Alfred hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for their serious injuries, which, fortunately, are not life-threatening.
A team from the Country Fire Authority was able to gain control of the fire within just 15 minutes, preventing further damage and potential harm to others in the vicinity.
Authorities have stated that an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing; however, at this point, they do not consider it to be suspicious.
This incident raises questions about safety regulations and the precautions boaters should take to prevent similar accidents in the future. What measures do you think could be implemented to enhance safety on the water? Feel free to share your thoughts!
