Bold statement: An NFL star’s availability is still a mystery as the countdown to Thursday’s game begins. And this is where it gets controversial: even without a clear practice week, the Lions haven’t ruled out Amon-Ra St. Brown for the showdown with the Cowboys, raising questions about how much risk is acceptable for a key receiver.
St. Brown has yet to practice this week, leaving his status for the Thursday clash uncertain. He admitted on Tuesday that he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to play exactly one week after injuring his ankle in Detroit’s Thanksgiving loss to Green Bay. “I’m not sure right now, to be honest. It’s still up in the air,” he said, per Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit. “I’ll try to be out there for the guys, for my teammates, but I can’t answer that question right now.”
The 2023 standout has been the Lions’ top target this season, leading Detroit with 75 receptions, 884 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. He’s officially listed as a non-participant on both Monday and Tuesday after suffering the ankle issue.
Other players noted in Detroit’s Tuesday update include tight end Brock Wright (neck) and wideout Kalif Raymond (ankle), both still out. Offensive tackle Penei Sewell (shoulder) was also listed as a non-participant, while guard Kayode Awosika (foot) was limited. Additionally, offensive tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder/rest), tight end Shane Zylstra (knee), and safety Kerby Joseph (knee) were downgraded from limited to DNP.
On the other side of the ball, cornerback Brian Branch (toe/ankle), center Graham Glasgow (knee), and running back Sione Vaki (thumb) remained limited participants in Tuesday’s practice.
Bottom line: Detroit’s Week 13 availability watch is still wide open, with St. Brown’s status the focal point as game day approaches.
